New local Guidance
The local advice has changed but the national advice remains unchanged and must still apply:
Anyone who has one of the main symptoms of:
- A persistent cough
- A high temperature
- A new cough or loss of taste or smell
Must self-isolate immediately and book a test.
However, with many people displaying other symptoms, we are asking staff and pupils to get tested as a precaution if they have other symptoms such as:
- Headaches
- Aches and pains
- Feeling very tired for no good reason
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Sneezing
- Sometimes ‘tummy ache’ in children
People with any of these symptoms can carry on going to school or work if they are well enough to do so and only need to self-isolate if the test comes back positive.
The national testing centres across the county have good availability, and can be booked through the NHS website. People booking a test through this website:
- choose the 'no symptoms' option
- and then need to check the ‘My council has asked me to get a test’ option
Staffordshire have community testing sites that change on a weekly basis. People can view if there are any sites set up near them by visiting this testing website.
The advice supersedes the symptom checker chart that has been shared on our school website. The website will be updated shortly.
So in summary:
Main Three Symptoms - Test - Isolate
Local List of Symptoms - Test - Return to school/work if well until test result and only isolate if test result is positive.
What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19:
- A persistent cough
- A high temperature
- A new cough or loss of taste or smell
they should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared and must get tested. Testing can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.
All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days.
The 10-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.
Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home.
Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community
If you are able to, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period.
For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
If your child or anyone in the household does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/ or by phoning 111.
How to stop COVID-19 spreading
There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19
- wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
- use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- wash your hands as soon as you get home
- cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
- put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

Remote Teaching
Our Curriculum
Throughout the period we are working as a virtual school we will be sharing lessons from a planned curriculum that is almost identical to as if they were in school, using all of the resources at our disposal. You will be aware of many online learning opportunities that have just been launched and supported by the DfE e.g. The Oak National Academy Resources and BBC Bitesize, now on TV. If we feel these are of use, we will include them in our planned curriculum and lesson tasks. It is important that pupils follow our curriculum throughout this challenging period.
Virtual School
Please encourage all pupils to continue to follow our simple steps of:
- Register every school day. Go to Resources > Virtual School Registers
- Complete their lessons via Firefly Tasks
- Mark all work as done at the end of the lesson
Registers form a key component or our safe and well checks. It is vital that we keep in contact with our pupils over this lockdown period and we have a duty of care to ensure that they are all safe and well. We very much appreciate parents/carers responding promptly to our communications when the pastoral team get in touch and hope that you are finding this contact helpful and reassuring.
Learning Online
We know it is not easy to learn independently online. Therefore, if your child is ever stuck, has a question, would like a specific activity marked to help them progress, or would like to show off work they are proud of, they should use the functionality within every Firefly task. On a pc/mac they can write a comment to their teacher and send a file e.g. your child could send a photo of their work followed by a comment asking for a teacher to check their understanding. Using the Firefly app pupils can also use the added functionality of their device’s camera and microphone to send photos or a short recording to their teacher. Teachers will be monitoring the Firefly tasks before going live for the final 30 mins of the lesson.
Pupils who are having trouble accessing our online education should contact our IT support and their Progress Manager. IT support can be accessed via this email address: Firefly@endon.staffs.sch.uk.
All lessons will follow a pupil's timetable and be delivered in real time. Pupils access all of the lessons through Firefly tasks, supported with MS Teams for the live sections.
- The introduction to lesson will be supported by a short 5-10 minute recorded video or a live session. This should help to explain what the pupil needs to do and begin to teach the content of the lesson.
- When pupils have completed their work, they are expected to upload evidence of each completed task. Most probably photos of exercise book pages. This work will be reviewed, as exercise books are in a lesson, with a book check protocol and will form the basis for teacher's feedback and unpicking of common misconceptions in the final 30 mins of the lesson, or in the following lesson.
- The final phase of the lesson will be done live on MS Teams and staff will also use Firefly tasks timelines to communicate with pupils and review their work. All pupils will be expected to attend online.
